Car hire is charged by 24hr sectors - if you pick up your car at 12 noon on Friday 1 May you must return the car back by 12 noon on Friday 15 May for the 14 day rental cost to be valid. If you return the car after midday the car hire company reserves the right to charge you for an extra days car hire.

CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) is included - there is no excess to be paid, however please note the CDW does not cover damage to tyres, windscreens or undercarriage. You may be offered this option when completing the car hire contract and should you wish to take this extra cover, you will pay direct to the car hire company. Personal accident insurance is not included - make sure your travel insurance covers you.

When you collect your car you will be asked to leave an imprint of your credit card (cash or a debit card are not accepted alternatives). Provided that you return your hire car with at least the same amount of fuel (unless the car hire representative advises you otherwise); no charges will be made to your card. You may be asked to pay for a full tank of fuel at collection and then asked to leave the vehicle as empty as possible when you.

Please note: that if you have been requested to return your car with a minimum amount of fuel and you do not do this, the car hire company will deduct the cost of filling up the tank, which may also include a supplement for this service.

Driving in Andalucía

When it comes to cars in Spain, small is beautiful! The smaller vehicles are easier to navigate through the narrow streets and down the bumpy tracks that lead to many of our villas. We recommend you take care when driving on these tracks, as you are responsible for any damage caused to the tyres, underside of the car or windscreens. Unless at time of completing your car hire contract you have paid extra to cover against damage to these area you will be charged by the car hire company for any damage caused whilst the car has been rented out to you.

When you are driving in Spain the law insists that you always wear a seat belt, carry your driving licence and car hire documents with you. If you are pulled over by the traffic police for a speeding or other offence, an ‘on the spot’ fine will be the least of your problems, if they find out you don’t have a driving licence and your car hire documents with you!

Taking your car to Gibraltar, Portugal or Morocco

Your insurance covers you for driving your car in Gibraltar or Portugal; however you are not permitted to take your car to Morocco. Please be warned that the queues for cars (not for those on foot) between La Linea in Spain and Gibraltar; and vice versa - can create delays from 20mins to in excess of 2hours. We suggest you do not drive in to or out of Gibraltar. Please park in La Linea in the Focona underground car park opposite the border and walk across the border controls with your passports.

Facilitating the collection of your hire car

To help facilitate the collection of your hire car we recommend the following:

  • We will email you a pre-registration form along with your confirmation invoice, which we ask you to fully complete and email back to us by return. We will then forward your pre-registration form to the company who will be providing you car:
    Global Car Hire in Málaga
    Goldcar Rental in Jerez
Auriga Crown in Seville and La Linea for Gibraltar
  • If you are flying into Seville or Jerez and two or more of you are travelling together, we suggest the main driver goes immediately to the car hire desk in arrivals with the driving licenses and passports of both drivers, minimising time waiting in a queue. The other person(s) can wait for the luggage and thus all be through the airport and on the road as quickly as possible.
  • If you are flying into Gibraltar you will walk across the border to La Linea with your luggage to collect your car, a distance of some 200m. We suggest the main driver goes to the car hire desk with the driving licenses and passports of both drivers. The other person(s) can wait with the luggage in one of the nearby café bars.
  • If you are flying into Málaga you will be collected from the arrivals terminal by the Global Car Hire mini-bus and whisked away from the bustle of the airport to the quiet of their office adjacent to the motorway. The formalities of the paperwork will quickly be completed and you will have avoided a wait of up to 2.5 hours if you had booked your car with some of the multi-national companies based in the airport terminal. You will also eliminate the challenge of driving around an airport which is under major expansion until 2013.

Driving licence age restrictions

Persons over the age of 21 who has held a full license for at least 2 years can legally drive in Spain. There is no upper age limit, if you hold a valid driving license - it is also valid in Spain.
